Hi Mike,
your system has not loaded the parport module!
The pt_drv module needs the parport module to be able
to share the port with other devices. Have you added
the following lines to your /etc/conf.modules file?
alias char-major-40 pt_drv
post-install pt_drv modprobe -k parport
options pt_drv lampoff=180 warmup=15 port=0x378
and restarted your system?
This should normally force the parport module to be loaded prior to
the pt_drv module.
For testing, you can load parport manually -
modprobe parport
this should work as well.
