Hi,

If anyone reading this knows about a RESET opcode, please send pointers.

Occasionally in reading MCHP docs I come across an apparent reference to a
RESET instruction, but of course when I see it and when I could use it are
two different times.

Of course the default interpretation is that the apparent reference to a
RESET instruction is rather a reference to pulling (down) on (an enabled)
MCLR -- or dropping Vdd into a BOR, etc..

And it's easy to imagine that the language of the documentation is not
transparent.

But I thought I'd ask, anyway.

Thanks,
John

See any PIC16EMR or PIC18 data sheet. It's simply a clean way for
software to initiate a reset.

The Enhanced Midrange devices (PIC16F1xxx) and PIC18 devices have a reset
opcode. Other devices with the 14-bit core and all devices with the 12-bit
core lack a reset instruction.

The reset instruction nearly the equivalent of the POR reset.

Hi,

AFAIK the RESET instruction exists only on MCU >= PIC18.
It is theoretically strictly equivalent to a MCLR.

there is a reset instruction for some controllers not all.
These generally are those that support intosc. to be clear, you check on the
reset states of the pic, there will be options for reset (BOR,MCLR etc), which
controller are u using?

Hi,

Thanks for your answer but I solved the issue following some earlier
advice I received I think from someone on this list. I cannot say what
terminal was recommended as I am not at work.

Thanks again

anne
