If the 4831P is like the 9630 the cable you need is not either normal cable.
It has one male and one female end. A normal serial has male db25 connectors
on each end, the printer cable has one db25 male and one edge card connector.
A serial cable that has all 25 pins wired ( some only wire 8 or 9 pins since
serial does not use them all ) with a gender changer to make the female end
would do the trick. Or you'll have to build one if you don't have the one that
came with the scanner.
