Do "lsmod" and see if the lp.o module is loaded. It is known to
cause this noise problem. Remove it with "rmmod lp" and reload it
later if needed. You can write a small script file to do this
automatically.

I've never seen the plip option in the parport_pc pre-install. Are
you sure it should be there? What does the dmesg output say about
loading these modules (Can you be more specific about "my system
doesn't seen to like it"?)

I think there is a general problem with some versions of gimp and
plugins- none of them seem to work. That is a gimp problem and I
don't know if it has been fixed yet.
