Although I'm a linux fan, I would rather see programming software that
works both under Linux and Windows, supports a whole variety of
programmers, can program most all of the PICs, and is GPL'ed.

I created a project named JPicTools on sourceforge and document the
JPicProg at http://jpictools.sourceforge.net/ . It runs under Linux and
Windows, has support for Tait-style programmers (prog84, Dontronics
DT001, etc.), supports the flash devices 16F84 (pretty fully tested),
16F877 (mostly works, still a small problem setting the config bits),
and 12C509 (not tested).

I have the hardware for Byron Jeff's single IC programmer and hope to
add it as time permits and also want to add serial port programmers (I
have written one for Tony Nixon's simple serial programmer (by the way,
Tony's site seems to have been hijacked by a *orn supplier, any
alternate url's to Tony's real site?). I would also like to directly
support a bootloader like Wouter's (after all, it's just another type of
programmer, right?).

The only thing I'm lacking so far is interest ;-)
