A traveling Microchip factory rep was in my neck of the woods recently
and we had a long talk. I wouldn't expect the DSPic to be available
from Digikey for another year. If you are a glutton for punishment then
you might be able to talk your way into being an alpha tester for later
this year.
Microchip appears to be going thru several generations of the DSPic
design and is willing to gather what they know, rip everything up and
create another generation to make it better before mass production.
The delay is they have gone thru more generations than they originally
expected would be needed. The issue hasn't been, "the tools and silicon
didn't work."
Other interesting news (to me at least) was USB interface for the
ICE-4000. And maybe even the ICE-2000. And maybe he said a USB ICD as
well.
