Not wishing to interrupt, I got that type of error, and came bleating here;
someone suggested I d/l popt itself, and not use the readline implementation
of it. It worked well for me. I'm on a rather fatally flawed version of
Mandrake 8.0 (Can't get around to finishing LFS)
