Just to clarify. The compiler, SDCC Pic Port, does NOT support the 18F452. 
At the moment, neither does the simulator. Adding support for the 18F452 
to the simulator is straight forward. Adding (full) support for it in the 
compiler is a major undertaking.

As far as getting started, I suggest staying subscribed to this list and 
perhaps the SDCC mailing list. There are now enough users of the gnupic 
tools that several people can help you out.
