You could wait (how long?) for the 16F88: it will (possibly...) have 7
channels of 10-bit A/D at hundreds of kHz sampling rate and is
compatible with 16F628. OTOH the 18F8XX2 28 or 40-pin chips might be
easier to obtain right now.
The PIC ADC seems to be an internal implementation of the
sample-and-discharge-through-resistor method.
