I am having major fonts hassle in gpsim

I have two installations
1. Older Mandrake 8.0 in rather a tatty state as regards fonts, etc. I went
after the euro on it, got the best of advice and ran into a brick wall. Here
it complains about iso-8859-15 fonts, and I have to select others. It will
refuse to update instructions id I disturb it in the slightest (e.g, stepping
through a program, one particular incf 0x56 was not done whereas everything
else was)

2. Clean, but bare LFS 3.3 (Kernel 2.4.18, X 4.2.0) Here, I get no data in
the source window, and some refuse to open (because, I gather, of fonts).
Opening the program window changed the font in everything :-o.
Setting fonts is not marvellously documented. I did get a settings tab which
had a single font. When I selected a choice, (lucidiatypewriter) it segfaults!
