That's odd. 8859-15 IIRC is very similar to ordinary 8859-1.
Is the complaint the "... font did not load." message?

Do you mean you get a blank background or that the PC pixmap does not move?

There has been changes in the way dialogs are implemented, in
order to avoid crashes when closing dialogs in un-thought-of ways...

There are font related fixes in cvs related to this:
"Bug fixed in reading commentfont string from the .gpsim file."
"Fix font wierdness." 

If you try the cvs version (please do) and still have problems then 
I'll look at it more (and try to get a similar setup to yours).
