gdk is the layer of code below gtk.

I don't know what causes this. I don't have time to investigate right
now.
You should file a bug at sourceforge.net/projects/gpsim. Specify
what locale you are using (the LANG enviroment variable I think), which
font you try to load, version of gpsim you use, etc.
