I treid this. The resulting 17c44s( 2x otp) misbehaved. I even sent a
download to Andrew Pines (the o/p of picp /dev/ttyS1 17c44 -rp <file>)
and asked him to do likewise and diff it. He did, and there were small
but subtle differences, which he analysed in a long e-mail which passed
several feet overhead ;-) .The conclusion he gave was that it 'should
be OK'. It wasn't. Twice over. I am now stuck on picp-0.4f & 2.30
firmware as the other one segfaults and craps out at the end, and
doesn't write a good program. Maybe go to an intermediate picstart
firmware first?

I never figured out mplab. I dunno if I even have it installed.
(checks). I don't.
