Have you considered:
   http://plasma-gate.weizmann.ac.il/Grace/
It uses Motif/Lesstif for the GUI (xmgrace) but has a console mode
(grace)
It was suggested to me (possibly you :) to plot my PIC digitized analog
data.

BTW, my scenix to PIC port is almost there. Much bigger job than I
expected.
