John,
I suspect the 'problem' with CVS is on your side. I just saw Craig's
suggestion, another thing you may try is setting the CVS environment
variable:
export CVS_RSH=ssh

AFAIK, there is no RPM for gtk+extra. And, if you're planning on using
CVS, you'll need the gtk+extra that has been updated to work with GTK+2.
The version of gtk+extra in gtk+extra's CVS repository unfortunately is
broken. Sigh. However, Borut and I have fixed it and you can get it from
either:
http://gpsim.sourceforge.net/gpsimWin32/gpsimWin32.html
and grab gtk+extra-2-src-1.1.0-20040626.tar.gz
http://www.dattalo.com/gnupic/gtk+extra-1.1.0.tar.gz
Some people have had trouble building these. I confirmed this with FC 3.
Since you're using FC 2, you may wish to grab this version instead:
http://www.dattalo.com/gnupic/gtk+extra-2-src-1.1.0-20041212.tar.gz
When you install this package, you'll need to manually move one
file: `gtkextra-2.0.pc'. On my system this was installed into
/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/ and I had to copy it to /usr/lib64/pkgconfig/ .
(I suppose an alternative would be to configure pkg-config to look at the
directory in which this file is installed).
Scott
PS. In case you're wondering, the '/usr/lib64' directory is what you get
when you install FC 3 onto an Athlon 64. And that'd be an Athlon 64 3500+
:)
