Personally, I *want* to get a direct and a 'through the list' email for
threads I'm involved in. For me, it's becuase I sort my incoming list
email into folders--which don't raise 'new mail' kinds of flags, so I
may not see an email in them for hours/days. If I'm personally CC'd
in the message, then I can see it sooner and reply.

Many lists that I'm on are open--linux kernel--and you have to preserve
the CC list as many people posting may not be on list and will not see
a reply if you don't CC them. For a closed list, it's different, but
it has always been traditional to CC directly effected people in a thread.

The solution seems to be better personal mail tools all around. :) I,
for one, could use a multi mailbox watcher program. Anyone know of one
that works with nmh style mailboxes? I use sendmail/fetchmail/procmail/
spamassassin/nmh/exmh for my personal mail needs. I find those tools
handy to manage the half dozen accounts on nearly that many hosts into
the few dozen lists to which I'm subscribed.

Cheers,
David
