Well, to start you will have to install the GNU Pic Utilities, also called 
"gputils". I don't know which distribution of GNU/Linux you're using, but 
you'll find a package for it with google.

That package contains gpasm (mpasm equivalent) and some tools, like a 
disassembler and other stuff.
If you want to simulate your prog, look at "gpsim", very useful :)
To program in C you can deal with "sdcc", there are some threads about it on 
the list.

I don't know which programmer you have, but if you have a "Jdm" one, look 
for picprog at http://hyvatti.iki.fi/~jaakko/pic/
