It's CVS, It's development code, It will break every so often. ;-)
Seems you have more problems because of Debian that than anything else.

There were a couple of changes made that were "WIN32" specific but
wern't enclosed in an appropriate #IFDEF WIN32.....#ENDIF These were
fixed by last night.

For things like gpsim, which are under development, it is far better to
use CVS or a nightly snapshot, otherwise when you "tickle a bug" you are
always going to be dependent on someone else to update a packaged
version in order to get the latest bug fixes. Of course for stable
releases a packaged versions are fine.
