1) What does the asm code look like ?  Anything odd in there ?
2) (This used to ask about running with s simulator but I now see it
works ok with gpsim).
3) Have you tried another chip ?
4) Have you tried a lower/higher Xtal to see if that makes a
difference ?
5) Have you tried turning wdt off in the config ?
6) Is MCLR decoupled ?
7) Are all interrupts disabled (esp. USART ones )?  gpsim won't trigger
them but real hardware might.

PICs are static so a crystal that stops won't cause a reset, it will
just stop the program running until oscillations start again.
