gputils doesn't support any programmers and thus supports ALL
programmers. I would be surprised if there are ANY programmers that
can't use the ".hex" file produced by gpasm or gplink.

Lots of simple programmers can be used with linux. Wouters wisp628 can
be used with linux http://www.voti.nl/wisp628/index_1.html
