I assume you buy the PICkit 2 (PICkit 1 is older). The LPC demo
board is using 16F690. If you do not buy the LPC demo boards
with PICkit 2, you can choose 16F684/16F688. I assume you
have a typo in "16F84", it is not supported by PICkit 2 or PICkit 1.
It is also not a good choice even you buy another programmer.

PICkit 2 only supports 8/14/20pin PICs right now. It will
support 18F and other 16F PICs later.
