Sorry, I'm not familiar with pikdev. But gpasm has an 'o' command line 
option which allows you to specify an alternate output file. Maybe you can 
make use of this in the Makefile in order to get the .o file put in a 
different directory. (?) I'm not sure where it would put intermediate 
files (.lst, .cod, etc).

Another possibility may be to keep your library of .asm files wherever you 
like, and then have the Makefile copy from the library to the current 
project directory. Then assemble the copy in the project directory, and 
files will be created where you'd expect. The auto-copy function will 
ensure that updates in the library propagate into all projects as they're 
re-assembled.
