For those who are still using PICkit 1, Jeff Boly
has updated the C based usb_pickit and published
the files in his website:
http://www.teammojo.org/PICkit/pickit1.html.
It is based on Mark Rages' modification of the
original usb_pickit by Dr Orion Lawlor. And it
claims to support all the mid-range PICs supported
by Microchip's Windows only PC application.
There is another option: Mark Rages' pyk supports
PICkit 1 as well. pyk has one advantage: it supports
some base line PICs.
Of course, PICkit 2 is better. But there is no
need to throw away PICKit 2 yet since it still
supports quite some PICs.
