In theory JDM2 can support 18F USB chips as well. In fact under
Windows, WinPIC 800 claims support of many PICs and
dsPICs using simple programmers.
http://perso.wanadoo.es/siscobf/winpic800.htm
pikdev claims supports of 18F4550 under Linux but I am not so
sure about whether it support 18F4550 when using JDM.
But personally I will still prefer Wisp628A over JDM type programmers
because the added reliability.
PS+ clones which Jeff recommends can be a good option as well.

Xiaofan
The pikdev does support of 18F4550 at least together with a paralell "Taitish" programmer (i know nothing about the JDM series). I use it for over 7 months and faced no problem so far.
