I have used both the 628 and 628A.  The programming algorithms do
differ.  Otherwise the 628 and 628A are pretty much identical.  Biggest
non-programming difference is the 628A has a better internal osc.

You can get PDF specs at microchip.com, look for the Programming Spec.
The normal datasheet doesn't cover the programming details.
