I'd check out wisp628 from http://www.voti.nl/wisp628/index.html and  
xwisp2 http://www.robh.nl . Any other "intelligent" programmer that  
uses a real rs232 transmission or usb will do. If you got the  
appropriate linux software of course. Programmers that toggle the  
handshake lines like JDM will not work with usb adapters.

Although I use Mac OS X I can tell you PICing shouldn't be a problem  
with linux ppc. Besides, all the tool ran first on linux. The PPC  
architecture problem with xwisp2 we've already figured out. So go  
ahead and get your iBook. Maybe you also wanna give Mac OS X a shot ;)
