Maybe you can try using the following CFLAGS in the Makefile. I am using
this CFLAGS for Ubuntu Breezy and FC4 (both 32bit --> I do not see any
advantages running 64-bit for personal use).

CFLAGS=$(OPTS) -I$(LIBUSB)/include -DLINUX -DUSE_DETACH -DCLAIM_USB
