Hi Xiaofan

I hope this project is at the stage where some feedback is of use to you?

I played a touch more, its not right yet.

with this line in my Makefile on fc4 amd64 kernel 2.6.15

CFLAGS=$(OPTS) -I$(LIBUSB)/include -DLINUX -DUSE_DETACH

I get

[root@wattle pk2-1.36]# ./pk2 --firmware

PK2 version 1.36 - 2006/03/17
  ./pk2 --firmware

Locating USB Microchip PICkit2 (vendor 0x04d8/product 0x0033)
Found USB PICkit as device '011' on USB bus 001, devnum 11
Communication established. PICkit2 firmware version is 118.90.90

the first time run, with several seconds delay between the
'found piccit line and the unusual version number line.

Running pk2 again, I get
Found USB PICkit as device '011' on USB bus 001, devnum 11
Communication established. PICkit2 firmware version is 1.0.1
which comes back quickly.

The version number then toggles between the two values on repeated runs,
always with delay on the 'wrong' one.

I shall strace and try to find out what is taking so long,
and look at pyk on the ubuntu box.
I have played enough with udev rules on fc4 to get my
usbserial adaptors working, so I'll note what is needed there.

(I have the pickit2 because I spilled a glass of wine onto my previous
serial pic programmer, and it was never quite the same again.....)
