Thanks to all who replied. I ran update for the ?!?!th time and _this_ time
apt-get found all the libraries OK. So now I hope to ignore my PC and pay
more attention to the micro.

BTW am running Breezy. As I scan the ubuntu-user group list I note lots of
problems with Dapper. Think I'll put off updating for a while:-o
