I have either run out of, or lost my last few remaining 16F84s.

No need for pin compatibility (ok a few spares might be useful!).

Old question, conflicting advice, perhaps everyone defends there favorite
parts too dearly...

I'm impressed with my first attempts with sdcc, it all seems fairly
painless compared to hand coding. Does this have any influence on the PIC
choice?

I think I've decided against 16F819 as the 16F88 seems better. I think
'killer features' for me are on board ADC (seems standard now but not on
16F84) and reasonably easy interface somehow (RS232 for now likely) with a
PC.

I'm starting to get the impression that most PIC now are reasonably
featured and you can't go too far wrong with any popular cheap one.

Pete
