You are right. Compiling and linking are ok on my machine, but this line
should not be here. To be fixed...
> About the rest, I'm a bit confused. I don't understand why a bootloader as the one pointed out by Byron is suitable for uploading a hex bootfile to a chip, but then I need a programmer to do the same. So if I want to get on with your project pierre I might need to buy a programmer anyway? Isn't it possible to use the generated bootfile with such a bootloader?

As BAJ said, whatever the solution you choose, you still need a
programmer (of course this programmer can be connected to your PC
parallel or USB port) to upload at least once the bootloader.
When the bootloader has been flashed into your uC, you can program the
PIC without a programmer : the PIC itself will do it through its USB
interface.

In fact it is quite easy and unexpensive to build your own one (30€ ?),
at least for a parallel port programmer. See
http://gforge.enseeiht.fr/docman/view.php/10/203/vascoprog-20060108.zip
and http://gforge.enseeiht.fr/docman/view.php/10/220/low-img_1347.jpg.
This is the programmer I am actually using.
