And then, once I have all that circuit done how should I proceed?

I used to have linux on my sister's computer before buying this laptop. It wouldn't be so difficult either to
make a live-cdrom with the needed software, or to install mplab or whatever if I can make a programmer the way you point out. I also see in the photo you used a 4550, which is the same one I have.
