gnupic: is it possible to use gas and ld?

Hello,

This is just something I've been thinking since a few days back. 

My question is if it would be possible to use the gcc suite to output hex files suitables for pic development?. 

I'm actually referring to gnu as (and it's intel's 16 bits output) plus probably a custom linker script that allows code's placement within the desired pic's memory area at run-time.

If it wouldn't could some one please tell us why?
