You can use the pin diode in two ways, either as a shunt ( short circuit ) or
as a serial switch.
I posted a pinhandbook to John as I can't attach files here. If you want a
copy, off group mail!
As I wrote to John, the pin diode is "THE" forgotten component. It's a really
really versatile - dirt cheap little bugger. And also important, with a small
footprint and number of pins for the switch. Also, it goes up in the GHz area
so it's a fast little bugger as well ( watch induced spikes ).
