At least the new code doesn't contain such memorable lines as:
printk("%d oops usb_serial_port pointer is NULL\n", __LINE__);
And
MODULE_PARM_DESC(verbose, "print more stuff on the log");
has been changed to
MODULE_PARM_DESC(debug, "Enable verbose debugging messages");
Seems to have been written (or cleaned up) by a different person.
