It seems that programming a PIC under Linux isn't easy !!!
It exists lots of programmer, often only able to program one kind of chip,
using one kind of hardware. Ic-Prog (Windows) is able to program all kind
of microncontrolers/EEPROM using a lot of hardware, that's why I'm
interested with. I think that porting it under Linux using Kylix is very
easy, but needs to know Delphi/Kylix (I don't). So, if people are
interested to do that job (with its author), just contact him (Philippe,
je t'enourage dans cette voie !!! Au fait, j'ai l'impression qu'il a pas
mal de francais sur cette liste...).
All programmers supported by IcProg are cheap. And they use very simple
hardware, and common interface (serial or //). You are talking about Cump,
an 'engine' programmer. This idea is also very good, but needs more
complicated hardware (you first have to program the PIC inside !!!). It
already exists such a project, called 'pocket', a portable PIC porgrammer,
with a Windows software, and a Linux one. Cf:

What do you think about it ?
As I already build a propic2 hardware, I'm looking for a software able to
use it. I will try picprg (the version I tried was only working for kernel
2.0 or 2.2, and I had troubles. Carlos, thank you for the link).
I will also have a look at jpictools (Kevin, how do I use the downloaded
file ? I have jre installed, but don't know how to execute the .jar files.
I'm not familiar with java stuff).
Well, thank you for all your suggestions.
Regards,
