Another thing to try is refreshing your local library path if you're
installing gtk+extra from the tar balls. I think Ralf is correct though,
you don't seem to have the include files for gtk+extra (and these are in
the development package).
To refresh your library cache:
check /etc/ld.so.conf to make sure it has a path to the libraries. E.g. if
you discover after installing a package that the libraries are but in the
directory /usr/local/lib , then you need to add that path to ld.so.conf .
Next, run ldconf (usually /sbin/ldconf) as root.
