Benchmarks for these sorts of things are shaky at best. Try going through
the /proc directory and read some of the memory information (cpuinfo,
meminfo, etc..) stored there. Of all the places on the system, that will be
your best bet for figuring out how your memory consumption is looking. In
fact, any utility you end up compiling and copying over will just read the
/proc anyway.
