hi all:
These days I have asked so many questions in this maillist to ask for help
about my tech problem , and with those zealous help , I have get some progress,
but the problem still remain. I will descibe it detail , pls help to check
is there any error remain.
The target:
Enable frame buffer mode to let my program access the framebuffer-device.
My step:
(1) custom installation of redhat 7.1 with kernel (2.4.2-2) in /usr/src
(2) run "make menuconfig"
(3) enable MTRRs in menuconfig's processor unit ( intel platforms)
(4) Enable "prompt for development andor incompleter drivers" in the Code Maturity Level menu
(5) Go into console deivers menu enable the following
VGA TEST CONSOLE
VIDEO SELECTION SUPPORT
SUPPORT FOR FRAMEBUFFER DEVICES
ADVANCED LOW LEVEL DRIVERS
SELECT mono, 2,4,6,8,16,24,32bpp packed pixel drivers
(6) type mknod "/dev/fb0 c 29 0 .... /dev/fb7 c 29 224" to create framebuffer device in /dev
(7) run "make dep" in /usr/src to rebuild kernel
(8) modify /etc/lilo.conf to include the VGA=ASK parameter and run /sbin/lilo.
(9) Reboot the kernel
But when i entering 0301 at the VGA prompt, return "invalid mode ID" , and can not see the
cute little Penguin logo :(
What i can choose , only 0 to 6 mode (80*20...80*60)
And then ,when i run program, I still found such kind of error message:
Error opening /dev/fb0: No Such Device
Cannot initialise screen: No Such Device
Could anyone help me or give me detail advise , thanks !
Regards
Daniel Wang
