Thanks Gerhard, for such a prompt reply. I am still stuck, however. My
Plustek.conf file is exactly as it should be, and I have checked and
double checked the /dev/usbscanner business, as Aleksander pointed out.
I had exactly that problem when I first installed Sane 1.0.6 and had to
soft link /dev/usbscanner and /dev/usbscanner0 to /dev/usb/scanner.
Everything now appears to be OK. What is meant by 'can't open device
/dev/usbscanner as a device'? Is this the pointer to the problem? I
have tried replacing /dev/usbscanner in the .conf file with
/dev/usbscanner0 and /dev/usb/scanner but no luck.
I did discover the old 1.0.6 backends directory in my home folder
and deleted it, but no difference. I can find no trace of any other old
files. I have rebooted; and disconnected, reconnected the scanner as
well to no avail. It used to work, so I feel I must be missing something
simple.
