Same old story here again....
Try and set the BIOS to plain EPP or try SPP...
The memory read/write test fails and that's why your scanner
is not recognized anymore. Why this happens while only changing
the distro-version, I don't know - or did you change your HW too?
You might set the port to SPP in BIOS and use afterwards the forceMode=2 
switch to use the EPP mode anyway...
