That's no problem. As long as you load the module by hand and let it
know wich vendor and product IDs to take care of the USB agent doesn't
need to know.

If you want the agent to load the module as soon as you plug in the
scanner, you need to add an entry for it to /etc/hotplug/usb.distmap
(this applies to SuSE Linux, I don't know where this stuff resides on
Debian).

I had similar problems when I first tested the plustek stuff.
Sometimes it can be brought to work again without a rebott by
switching over to a text console and reloading the USB modules.

Which hardware module are you using, uhci or usb-uhci?

In any case try it with the other one.

It could also be a good idea to go back to an official kernel instead
of some pre release.

BTW, up to now I was only successful with sane-1.0.6, but I haven't
yet tried it with a plain 1.0.7.

As long as you don't get any error messages regarding shared
libraries, that can't be found, it should be fine.
