I tried the modification specfied for the driver
0.43-1 but the result was the same as before. The
light did not came on.

Mike,
can you do me a favour? Please replace the _MIO5
setting
in plustek_devs.c for the HP2200C by _NO_MIO and test
again.
The also replace the register settings for reg 0x59,
0x5A
and 0x5B in the structure Hw0x03F0_0x0605 from
0x22, 0x82, 0x88 to
0xCC, 0xFC, 0xFF
and test again...
