Hi Pedro,
to build the xscanimage program, you need the GTK
development package installed.
Usually it's called gtkdev, check your distribution
for this.
After installing this package, call again configure
in the sane source directory. Then the configure
script should recognize that GTK is installed and will
build (after calling make) the xscanimage program.
After make install, the stuff should be available...
After calling configure you should have a lot of
checking ...
stuff on your screen, check the line
checking for GTK - version >= 0.99.13... yes
there should be the "yes" if there's a "no", please check the
sane documentation how to proceed. But usually you only
need to install the gtkdev package (which should be part
of your distribution)
