Hello,
Firstly a word of thanks for your work. I'd given up hope of ever
getting this thing working under Linux!
I have a UMAX Astra 3450 (which as far as I can tell, is just a UMAX
3400 with a transparency lamp) - the scanner has a short cable
connecting the lamp in the lid, to a socket marked 'Option' next to the
USB port. I've tried unplugging this, but the results are the same. I'm
using RH8.0/RH Kernel 2.4.18-14.
I've just installed 0.44-10 with sane-1.0.9-pre1, a fresh install of
both to avoid the compilation issues. I've also tried earlier versions
of both with the same result.
scanner.o seems to be working:
Oct 17 14:39:42 victoria kernel: scanner.c: probe_scanner: User
specified USB scanner -- Vendor:Product - 1606:60
Oct 17 14:39:42 victoria kernel: scanner.c: 0.4.6:USB Scanner Driver
The plustek driver is being used:
[root@victoria tmp]# scanimage -L
device `plustek:/dev/usb/scanner0' is a Plustek UMAX 3400 USB flatbed
scanner
When I use scanimage or xsane, with any resolution or X/Y offset, the
scan head lamp lights, it warms up for a few seconds, then the head
moves from the back, to the very start of the top of the glass and
stops. It keeps whirring as if it's physically stuck and is trying to
move. Then it stops whirring, the lamp switches off and the head moves
back to were it started from. The resultant image is banded vertically
as if the first scan line is being repeated in the down the image - as
you would expect.
I've checked that the hardware functions correctly under Windows
2000/Vistascan (where it's reported as a 3400/3450)
Is there anything I can do to help debug this? My C is a little rusty,
but I know my around patch/gcc/make etc.
Best regards,
Justin Smith.
