there is currently no fix for this and probaly never won't :-(
These old scanner have no hardware support for buffering image
data and therefore a driver should always be able to keep track.
As Linux is a multi-tasking OS, it couldn't be guaranteed that all
computing time will go to the driver...
Well, I can try and reactivate my old OpticPro 4830 and check it
on my current machine and see how to improve the behaviour.
If you check Windoze, the OS should freeze during scanning...
