Actually, I did change my BIOS setting already to be in EPP mode. However,
when I changed it, I didn't make coldboot. Now I did, and after that I
logged in as a root. I didn't start X, but I tried in text mode "make
load". And for my big surprise, it loaded the driver!
However, the happy feeling wasn't very long lasting... the scanimage -L
gave answer like this:
NVRM: AGPGART: Intel 440BX chipset
NVRM: AGPGART: aperture: 64M @ 0xe0000000
NVRM: AGPGART: aperture mapped from 0xe0000000 to 0xd1aaf000
NVRM: AGPGART: mode 2x
NVRM: AGPGART: allocated 16 pages

If i tried scanimage -L when x is loaded, it only says:
[root@val143 mkujanpa]# scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
[root@val143 mkujanpa]#
The pt_drv is loaded, as this shows:
[root@val143 mkujanpa]# /sbin/lsmod | grep pt_drv
pt_drv 141424 0
parport 37152 1 [pt_drv parport_pc]
[root@val143 mkujanpa]#
And I guess, at system's opinion parport is in EPP-mode:
[root@val143 mkujanpa]# cat /proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0/modes
PCSPP,TRISTATE,EPP
[root@val143 mkujanpa]#

As I mentioned, it is in EPP. I guess the only possibility is that my
scanner has live it's life... :/
