I tried out the very newest PlusTek backend, with no luck. Here's my
problem report in case it is useful for developers.

Jeff

                    ==========

$ sane-find-scanner
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9, product=0x220e) at libusb:001:005

The box says CanoScan LiDE 30, but the USB matches CanoScan N1240U
which has been working since 0.45-TEST4 of the PlusTek backend
according to the website. So I built and installed sane 1.0.9 with the
latest Plustek drivers under Debian Linux (unstable branch). No problems
during the build.

$ apt-get source sane-backends
$ cd sane-backends-1.0.9
$ tar xvzf ~/plustek-sane-0_44_10.tar.gz
$ debuild -us -uc
# dpkg --install ../*.deb

I made sure there was a device entry and that the usb modules
were loaded with correct parameters.

# mknod /dev/usbscanner0 c 180 48
# rmmod scanner
# depmod scanner vendor=0x04a9 product=0x220e

I appended to the end of /etc/plustek.conf:

[usb] 0x04a9 0x220e
device /dev/usbscanner0

I tried VueScan (a commercial Linux scanner program) and it works
fine; I was able to get successful captures. Unfortunately scanimage
-L returns "No scanner was identified..." I am happy to provide more
information or a remote login if that is helpful for driver
developers.
