Thanks Gerhard,
Your last tip saved the day. I had to unplug and replug my scanner in.
It was the ONLY way it would work. Oh...I also did 'touch
/usr/X11R6/bin/xsane as well. It definitely works now, and the scan
quality is as good (if not better...at defaults) as Windows. Gerhard

see if I can help some others maybe! thanks once more
