Hi,

I desperately try to get my EPSON Perfection 1260/PHOTO-scanner running with
SuSE-Linux 8.1, but I have no clue why it does not work. The scanner works
undes M$ Win 2k, but ... ;->

I use the original SuSE-kernel 2.4.19-4GB, I have compiled and installed
SANE 1.09 with the Plustek 0.45TEST5-backend.

I did the following settings:
- I added the following lines to /etc/modules.conf:
  # 07.01.2003, chhaas: um unbekannten EPSON-Scanner bekannt zu machen:
  options scanner product=0x011d vendor=0x4b8
- /etc/sane.d/dll.conf reads:
  # enable the next line if you want to allow access through the network:
  # net
  plustek
- /etc/sane.d/plustek.conf reads:
  # Plustek-SANE Backend configuration file
  # For use with Plustek parallel-port scanners and
  # LM9831/2/3 based USB scanners
  # 07.01.2003, chhaas:
  [usb] 0x4b8 0x011d
  device /dev/usbscanner
  # options for the previous USB entry
  # switch lamp off after xxx secs, 0 disables the feature
  # 07.01.2003, chhaas: Lampe nach 5 Minuten ausschalten:
  option lampOff 300
  # warmup period in seconds, 0 means no warmup
  # 07.01.2003, chhaas: Aufwaermzeit vor Kalibrierung 30 sec.:
  option warmup 30
  # 0 means leave lamp-status untouched, not 0 means switch off
  # on sane_close
  # option lOffOnEnd 0
  # 07.01.2003, chhaas: Lampe nach dem Beenden von SANE ausschalten:
  option lOffOnEnd 1
  # 07.01.2003, chhaas: Durchlichtaufsatz (Transparency Photo Adaptor)
aktivieren:
  option enableTPA 1
  # options to tweak the image start-position

- if I do a modprobe scanner, then this appears in /var/log/messages:

- sane-find-scanner reports after the modprobe scanner (before it does not
find anything!):
  # Note that sane-find-scanner will find any scanner that is connected
  # to a SCSI bus and some scanners that are connected to the Universal
  # Serial Bus (USB) depending on your OS. It will even find scanners
  # that are not supported at all by SANE. It won't find a scanner that
  # is connected to a parallel or proprietary port.

  # If your scanner uses SCSI, you must have a driver for your SCSI
  # adapter and support for SCSI Generic (sg) in your Operating System
  # in order for the scanner to be used with SANE. If your scanner is
  # NOT listed above, check that you have installed the drivers.

  sane-find-scanner: found USB scanner (vendor = 0x04b8, product = 0x011d)
at device /dev/usb/scanner0
  sane-find-scanner: found USB scanner (vendor = 0x04b8, product = 0x011d)
at device /dev/usbscanner

But in everycase xsane, kooka etc. do not find a scanner device! If I try to
configure the scanner through YaST2, the testscan also fails.

How can I make my scanner working with SuSE 8.1? Any hints deeply
appreciated!
